![]() ![]() If you want to IMPORT a thing, first you have to EXPORT the thing. Here's what "other.js" looks like: // other.js Suppose you have two JS files: main.js and other.js. Note: packages that don't support ES6 modules can't be imported like this. Just use the module name and CodeKit will find it. In your JavaScript file, you'd write this: import $ from "jquery"Īs long as the package you're importing is installed via npm or Bower, you don't need to specify a path in your import statement. Suppose you install jQuery in your project using either npm or Bower. If your replacement string starts with a $ and you have defined an Environment Variable with that name, CodeKit will use the value of the environment variable. ![]() For example, if you import CommonJS modules (node packages), you need to replace the string "_ENV" or your bundle won't run in a browser, since "process" is not defined in a browser. Specify strings that should be replaced when Rollup runs. You can optionally specify a global variable name to which the external dependency should be bound. Resolve that error by telling Rollup that 'jquery' is an external dependency. Since jQuery is not installed anywhere in the project, Rollup will throw an error telling you that it can't find jQuery. For example, you might import jQuery, but load it from a CDN. Sometimes, you might import modules that should not be bundled. If you import a variable or function but don't use it, the import is ignored. To keep files small, Rollup includes only things that are actually used somewhere in the file. Open Project Settings and choose 'Rollup' from the 'Tools' category: Tree Shaking These are available, but they're likely not the right choice unless you're doing some specialty development. If your script is designed to run in a node.js environment only, this is the format you should choose. The output file will be a little bigger, though. This format runs in both web browsers and node.js environments. In English, that means: "Wrap all my code in a big function, then call the function at the bottom of the file." This is what you want if your script is running in a web browser. "Immediately Invoked Function Expression". Select a JavaScript file, then choose the type of bundle you want to create from the pop-up button in the File Inspector:Īlternately, you can enable bundling for every JS file at once by opening Project Settings and choosing the JavaScript language. If you don't want to (or can't) use ES6 modules, CodeKit offers another way of combining JavaScript files using simple comments. Also: lots of popular frameworks now ship modular JS that requires bundling. You can separate things into multiple files, then roll them into a single file for the browser. Why Do This?īecause modular JavaScript lets you write cleaner, better-organized code. Until then, Rollup "bundles" modular JavaScript into a single file that today's browsers can use. Unfortunately, it will be many years before most browsers can understand them natively. Russia is huge, but it's stuck on the outskirts of Europe.Īs a strategy game, Imperial Glory, for the most part, captures the diplomatic balancing act that was the Napoleonic Wars. The United Kingdom, on the other hand, can afford to sit back safely behind the Royal Navy, though it has trouble generating the production and population that the other empires can. France perhaps has the easiest road to travel, whereas Prussia and Austria find themselves surrounded on three sides by three very menacing empires. Your challenges will vary, depending on the nation you choose to play as. The turn-based strategy section is perhaps the best part of the game, and it can be an enjoyable, although very slow-paced, affair. That all sounds good, but in practice it turns out that Imperial Glory finds itself lacking in many departments. Imperial Glory also goes one better than Total War by including naval battles, so you can take your sloops and frigates into action. And when armies meet, you have the option of letting the computer automatically calculate the results, or you can drop down into a real-time, 3D battlefield and control your various infantry, artillery, and cavalry battalions on the map. Following the Total War formula means that you spend a lot of time on a strategic, turn-based map that looks a bit like the board game Risk. ![]() However, you can assimilate them into your empire, through conquest or peaceful integration, and that's pretty much what you'll spend much of the game doing as you attempt to conquer Europe nation by nation. While there are about a dozen other minor countries in the game, such as Portugal and Denmark, you aren't able to play as them. In Imperial Glory, you can control one of the five principal European powers of the Napoleonic Wars: France, the United Kingdom, Prussia, Austria, and Russia. The turn-based portion of Imperial Glory is slow-paced, but enjoyable, as you try to conquer Europe. That leaves Imperial Glory feeling very much like an uneven first step, which is a pity, because it does have a lot of promise. ![]() However, in copying the formula of Total War, Pyro Studios, the designers of Imperial Glory, have missed the small nuances and details that made the Total War games, in particular Medieval and Rome, something special. After all, Creative Assembly's popular strategy franchise has gotten bigger and better with every release. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Imperial Glory is a game that wants to be the next Total War. ![]() ![]() Jim Raynor continues his adventures along with Kerrigan, Zeratul and Artanis.
